S2E16 Summer Series: Lia Leaf Tea House

S2E16 Summer Series: Lia Leaf Tea House

This week, Kyrie and Cori join Christine, owner of Lia Leaf Tea House in Flagstaff to have a conversation about owning a tea shop and why she focuses on single origin tea.

Discussion

Christine talks us through how, at a very early age, she got into tea. As she grew up, she started researching the health benefits of tea, the difference between single origin tea and blended teas, leading to her preference for single origin tea. She also shares the joys and challenges of owning your own business and how she decides what to have on the menu.

What are we drinking?

Christine took us through a single origin green tea flight of four teas:

Gyokuro – Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan

Iccha Kariban – Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan

Dragonwell Longjing – Zhejiang Province, China

Emperor’s Cloud and Mist – Zhejiang Province, China

Kyrie and Cori get back to books and discuss more banned books!  This year, we are doing it with a twist – we read graphic novel versions of each.

Cori’s Pick: A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle

S2E15: Summer Series: Flagstaff Tea Company

S2E15: Summer Series: Flagstaff Tea Company

This week, Kyrie and Cori join Heather, owner of the Flagstaff Tea Company, in her adorable, cosy shop in downtown Flagstaff to discuss what it’s like to own a tea shop, the history of tea, and do a chai tea flight, where we are the very fortunate ones tasting three of Heather’s homemade chais!

What are we drinking?

Heather has provided us with three different chais:

German Chocolate Cake Chai (dessert in a cup)

Tra Que Chai (cinnamon)

Organic Kashmiri (cardamom)

We get a behind the scenes opportunity to watch Heather prepare the teas, which leads to some great tea brewing tips. We then share our r

eactions to the very tasty and different chais.

Discussion

Heather walks us through what got her inspired to start her own company, as well as what made her decide to have a tea company. We were fortunate enough to ask her a bunch of questions about brewing, health benefits of certain teas, what her favourites are, her baked goods (all made by Heather who used to be a pastry chef), and we even talk about some books!Follow Flagstaff Tea Company on Instagram. Don’t get mad at us if it makes you want to visit there every time she posts something delicious.

With that said, listeners who use the code BOOKSANDTEA can get 10% off your first in shop purchase!

Don’t live in Flagstaff?  Well, you will miss out on Heather making you a fresh cup of tea, but you can still order her amazing hand blended teas by visiting her website. Our suggestion: Try the monthly tea subscription!
